Ushering Role

Ushers assist anyone entering the building as a guest and are available for emergencies before, during or after show. They are enthusiastic and welcoming, making eye contact while speaking to people and creating a great experience for everyone involved. Together, they ensure the Auditorium, Lobby and Washrooms are clean after Intermission and end of show.

 

WHAT TO WEAR

 Black bottoms / white top, or any variation of black and white

 

WHAT TO EXPECT

·      Please arrive on time.

·      Receive instructions upon arrival and wear nametag.

·      Auditorium doors remain closed until House Manager indicates it is time to open.

·      Seats are first come, first serve

·      Accessible Seating, Sponsors, Ticket Winners, etc. may have reserved seating (House Manager will have specifics for each show).

·      Actors, guests are not allowed on stage during Intermission, or after show unless supervised by Usher.

 

ROLE

·      Meet as a team with coordinator upon arrival and for instructions. 

·      Observe Emergency Exits and Evacuation procedures posted inside Auditorium.

·      Find 2 playbills in baskets from Box Office Host. One basket per entrance to Auditorium

·      2-4 volunteers greet guests at entrance doors to building. Make eye contact and warmly welcome each group to “name of show”! Check tickets on phone or paper to ensure correct date and number in attendance. 

·      Walk guests to Box Office if they are picking up reserved tickets OR purchasing

·      2 volunteers per door into Auditorium

·      When doors open, 1 person from each door moves to stage and stands in aisle until house lights go ½

·      Provide 1 playbill / family upon entry

·      Assist those with Reserved Seating to find their seats (note who / where during meeting)

·      Volunteers at door View Tickets (paper, mobile) to ensure proper date/time

·      When auditorium appears ½ full, start to ask people to move into the centre of the rows to allow seating. Ask people to sit closer, as needed.

·      When house lights go to ½, please:

1.       close Auditorium doors

2.      turn off lights in lobby

3.      return remaining playbills to Box Office

4.      assist late comers with finding a seat when entering and assist with opening door, as needed

5.      remain close by door to assist guests, as needed

6.      tech crew works hard to communicate with backstage, each other and green rooms. Please assist in remaining quiet and moving people to their seats

·      photography and filming is NOT ALLOWED during performance Act 1-12. We do not have license to do so. If camera / phone is pulled out to do so – please address IMMEDIATELY. Go to guest in their seat and say “cameras and recording are not allowed during the performance”. If camera is used again, repeat and notify Brian / Jenn in sound booth.

 

INTERMISSION

1.   When houselights go up, please prop doors open to Auditorium and assist Concession, if needed. Following Intermission and guests are seated please assist in wiping down bathrooms, pushing down garbage and moving garbage bins to exit doors.

 

END OF SHOW

1.   During closing number with audience, please stand near doors. When house lights go up, please prop doors open (Auditorium & Outside) and thank guests for coming.

2.  One usher move to front of Auditorium to ensure guests do not go on stage. If cast members family wishes to have photo taken on stage after show, they can do so with your supervision. They are not allowed to go backstage.

3.  Using Garbage / Recycling bags collect all items in Auditorium seats. 

4.  Straighten chairs, vacuum Main Aud, where needed with Concession Team

5.  Return lanyard
